Post-Partum Doula CourseProfessional Coordinator: Gila Ronel Course Coordinator: Nirit Olivkovich
About the Course:
A post-partum doula is a woman who accompanies a new mother as needed and gives emotional and physical support to the mother and the family in the days and weeks after birth. The time after a first birth especially is a period filled with questions and insecurity, a time when the unknown becomes known, a time of feeling things out and searching for each person’s place in the new family structure. Into the confusion, uncertainty and change, and into the joy and the tears, comes the doula.
A post-partum doula gives general support at home – from washing a few dishes to putting up a pot of soup. A post-partum doula can advise on the daily care of mother and baby, watching the new mother nurse and guiding her towards better positioning, recognizing difficulties and recommending a lactation consultant if needed. The post-partum doula is there when the mother needs someone to listen, and the baby’s father will know the new mother is not alone when he is not at home. A post-partum doula can advise when the baby cries or is unsettled, or when the baby… what is he or she trying to tell us anyway?
This is a unique course that is laying the foundation for a new profession that will accompany a new mother and family in the first days after birth.
